FACT OF THE WEEK
“Buffalo wings” are named after the city of their origin of popularity, Buffalo NY! Not for a funny idea that the buffalo animal has wings, as I always thought. Was is just me that assumed this? πŸ™‚ Here, they call them simply “chicken wings,” never “buffalo wings.”

THOUGHTS

Rested in Rochester for a few days. Then found out last minute, my friend Rob (above), had a few days off and wanted to join me for 2 days! One of my favorite memories, was when the two of us got stuck in a bad storm, and consequently offered a place to stay by kind Chris (also above), whose house we were passing at the moment. Chris showed us a hilarious/scary homemade movie he made featuring his 4 year old as a swamp monster!

To give you an idea about how many good people I am meeting, and how much help I am receiving, I decided to keep track of all the items I received this past week:
2 energy booster shots, 2 peaches, 12 plums, 2 gatorades, 1 powerade, 1 roast beef sandwich, 5 bottles of water, 1 turkey sandwich, 2 hotdogs, 1 bag of almonds, 7 granola bars, 2 salads, 3 chicken wings, 2 vitamin waters, 1 spaghetti dinner, 1 bluegrass history lesson, 3 places to stay the night, and 100+ conversations, honks, waves, and peace signs.

Sometimes people ask if I have any official sponsors for my journey. I don’t, but I do have hundreds of unofficial sponsors, who I find in every single town I enter. I never ask for anything, but when people are extremely happy to help, I am also extremely happy to accept. I wouldn’t be able to keep going without various forms of encouragement, so thank you all, once again. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  1. HI TOM…ALWAYS A THRILL TO SEE THE PROGRESSION YO ARE ENJOYING. FROM ONE POINT TO THE OTHER, I SEE THE GRACIOUSNESS AND GENEROSITY OF ALL PEOPLE DIRECTED AT YOU. THE OLD SAYING, ‘ U REAP WHAT YOU SOW ‘ APPLIES TO YOU. YOU HAVE A KIND SPIRIT THAT OOZES FROM YOU AND PEOPLE FEEL THAT WHEN YOU ARE DOING YOUR THING…I FELT IT WHEN WE WERE TALKING IN THE TRUCK ON OUR WAY TO YOUR HOUSE. I THINK OF YOU OFTEN AND HOPE THE ANGELS, GOOD KARMA OR WHATEVER THERE IS OUT THERE IN SPIRIT AND LOVE, FOLLOWS YOU WHERE EVER YOU GO. Y OU WILL FOREVER HAVE A PLACE TO LAY YOUR HEAD, RE-HYDRATE AND REGROUP WITH FOOD AND COMFORT WHEN YOUR TRAVELS COME THIS WAY. MY FAMILY IS AWARE OF OUR PATHS THAT CROSSED AND THEY WISH YOU WELL ALSO.

    1. Mike- it is great to hear from you. I think of you often and am happy to have met you when you gave Tommy a ride home when he was hitchhiking across the country. As you can see he is on a new adventure walking across America, trying to let people know that there is more goodness out there than bad.
Much Love to you and yours…

    2. THANKS MIKE πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ great to hear from you again, it’s been a while, please keep in touch πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  2. Wow,
Those were nice words Mike S. My sentiments exactly. What a cool thing you are doing and you do deserve all kindness that comes your way, Thomas
    Stay well,
    Penny

  3. My boys and I are so happy to have met you while you were walking through Cicero, NY. It is fun watching your progress. I have significantly modified my on-line time as a result of your challenge and I feel much better as a result! Thank you for the inspiration. May God bless you and watch over you in your travels.

    1. Thanks Pete, GREAT to hear that worked out for you! Was great to meet you and the kids πŸ™‚ Keep in touch !

  4. Tommy just thought that you would like to know that I ran into someone that you met and they told me when you were talking to them they felt like they were in the presence of an angel. They felt compelled to give you something. I do not think that you realize what an impact you are having on people’s lives by just being you and meeting and talking with people.

  5. Thomas, I have been following your blog and you remind me of Peace Pilgrim–have you read about her? I hope your journey continues to go well. Karen

  7. Dear Tom,

I cannot tell you how many people I told last night about driving past you with my newly driving 16 year old along Lake Erie and then being out for a long run and stopping to talk with you. Your comment – “to look for the good rather than fight the bad” resonated with me so much that I came home and told my kids all about your journey. I made a batch of ginger snaps to ride down to you today – figured you were about 25 miles west – but got a late start cause I had to drive my daughter somewhere and missed you :(. You are in my prayers of thanks for having crossed paths. I will follow you and be with you in spirit.

    Love from a Derby Mom!

    1. Thanks Martha !! Was great to meet you and thanks for the thought! It’s possible I was taking a break off the main road somewhere or stopping in a store to refill my water or something when you were out looking for me. Maybe give the ginger snaps to an unsuspecting neighbor instead?? πŸ™‚ Thanks for following along keep in touch πŸ™‚

  8. Hi, Tom. I am your grandmother’s cousin Janet and am fascinated by your adventure and mission. Good luck to you and I pray for your safety! Janet
